Very Fine Satsuma Moriage Vase Cobalt Blue / Gold Signed Seizan Meiji Period
Perfect / Very Fine Condition. No signs of damage or wear apart form slight ageing and minor age related dirt on the foot. Vase is Glazed in Cobalt Blue With Over-Glaze Enamels in Gold known as Moriage technique. Vase depicts a Samurai elaborated decorated in Gold Leaf on one side and bamboo leaves on the reverse. The base is signed "Seizan". NOTE: The signature is by the Master Potter and pioneer of the fine calligraphy technique, Oda Seizan and NOT to be confused with Seizan Gama (Seizan Kiln). In 1895 Oda Seizan and in Terai, Ohara started calligraphy under the guidance of Nomura Zenkichi. Oda Seizan has improved this technique established few years and became specialized in this field. In 1912 Oda Seizan was mastering the calligraphy and will eventually become the most famous calligraphist and 1953 a Living National Treasure.
