Offered for your review and consideration is this absolutely fantastic and extraordinarily beautiful, post-WWII, Jap an ese Modernist, mid-20th century, Ikebana tubular ceramic vessel, featuring three asymmetrical rings or sills, which reference the natural world and clearly evoke the natural characteristics of bamboo shafts, with their ringed sections. The form is absolutely stunning and shows the Modernist Jap an ese disposition of referencing the natural world with their forms, often slightly departing from what informs their work or wholly divorcing their sources altogether. If the exquisite form were not enough, the hand decorated sidewalls are incredibly well considered and realized. The sides of the vessel have vertically striated greenish-gray ceramic glaze, with episodes of chalky white, beige and deep teal green, as well as pools of cobalt blue found on the flats of the sills, which populate and dance around the mid-section of the tubular form. The ceramic vessel is signed on the unglazed baseplate with two stamped maker's marks, featuring Jap an ese calligraphy symbols.
