A small circular lacquer box designed to as a container to store incense (known as a kogo in Japanese). The rounded dome-shape lid features a distinguished design of hair ornament ribbons and combs executed in takamaki-e of contrasting gold and silver tone.
The design flows to the lower half of the container on a nuro nashiji background. The interior is a dense nashiji in a brilliant orange gold shine. The maki-e decoration is very fine.
One can even find miniature decoration on the combs. The expert hand also rendered a great motion of the ribbons.
