You can determine if it meets with your approval. These lamps were made using beautiful and rare Satsuma vases. As the photos show the holes on the based were professionally drilled to insure the integrity of the vase structure.
They sit on hand carved wooden bases and I recently installed new high quality bronze finish sockets. The hole in the bottom is the only damage to what are otherwise beautiful vases from from what appears to be the mid to late Edo period.
The vases depict various scenes of Japanese culture, man with lady, and children play games. The images are done in fine brush hand painted designs with tasteful enamel accents. The enamel work throughout the vases is in remarkable condition and of elegant design. As shown in images #3 & #4, the vases are completely in tact except for the drilling of the bottom hole. I have no information why these vases were made into lamps or how long ago they were converted.
The first image shows the hand painted panels on the back and front of each lamp. There are some as made features in reference to the base of the vase as shown in several images, but these fail to be blemishes in comparison to the extraordinary hand painting and enamel work exhibited over the entire surface of the vases. The green handles have some very minor wear, please see images for purpose of making your decision. Please note: my photos are harsh and in no way do the lamps justice. In person they are "hard to believe".
Also the top lids have some minor scratches, very minor. The wooden bases are without damage, nicely carved and have just minor shading differences between the two.
Lamp Specifications: The vase only portion of the lamp are 14 1/2 tall. The widest part of the vase is 7 1/2 from handle to handle. The height of the lamp from base to the top of the socket is 22. Each lamp weighs a little over 5 lbs.Or local pick-up is FREE. REGARDING ITEM DESCRIPTIONS: PLEASE READ. IF FOR ANY REASON AN ITEM IS DELIVERED BROKEN, OR BECOMES LOST.
