Finely Detailed Antique Meiji-era JAPANESE SATSUMA Plate c. Our paintings and sculpture range from the 17th C. Inspection of our merchandise is available by appointment in our Roger's Park (Chicago) gallery. FREE PICK-UP IN THE CHICAGOLAND AREA. Up for your consideration is a very fine early Meiji-era Japanese plate, c.

The plate is unusual, with much more gold, some of it raised, than is typical for the era in which is was made. The painting is meticulously executed, typical of the best Satsuma works. Later works (post-1900) featured gold similar to this plate, but lack the fine detail seen in the faces, and are not a mix of painting and enamels such as this piece. It is unsigned, but nearly the quality of Imperial works of the time. The condition is good, with a shallow flake to the rim (see last photo).

There is also wear to the gold surface on the extreme edges. Condition is best understood by examining the photos. This quote is for the Continental U.
