This is a exquisite pair of extremely fine Japanese cloisonné enamel vases of bottle shape with intricate wirework inlay depicting birds in flight above chrysanthemums on a black ground, Meiji Period c. At a height of 30cm these are quite large vases for such intricate craftsmanship and they are in near perfect condition.
Dimensions : Height 30 cm x Diameter 12.5 cm. The bottle of water used for scale in the last photograph is equivalent to a standard bottle of wine (750ml). Weight 758 & 729 g. Condition : One vase is in perfect condition, while the other is in near perfect condition. In the latter an uneven base has been corrected with thin plastic wedges and there is a single fracture line (but no losses) in the black enamel just above the narrow point close to the base (see last but one photograph).
Otherwise, there is no damage, dents, fractures or losses to the enamel on either vase. Please note that there are reflections from the studio lighting (rectangular) and the ceiling florescent tubes (linear lines).
