Here is a nice cloisonne enameled jewelry or trinket box by the renowned Ando workshop. The elegantly flattened round formed box is worked in the traditional standard wire technique known as yusen shippo. The box is decorated with a stylized floral motif, the slightly domed top worked in various shades of green enamel. The box is in excellent vintage condition without any major faults such as chips, hairlines, losses or restoration.
The only notable condition item is very small, tiny ding on the lip of the bottom base. The tiny ding does not disturb any enameling and is mentioned for completeness. This exact box is pictured on page 105 in Chapter 15, Yaku-Jippo, items serving a utilitarian purpose, in Gary Yoshinos Japanese Cloisonne Enamels - A Private Collectors Notes and Reference Guide. The diameter of the box is approximately 3.5 inches. The height of this box is approximately 1.5 inches. Overall, a subtle and refined example where the various shades of green enamel provide an understated design. Due to the fragile nature of Japanese cloisonné enamels, this item will be double boxed and packed with tremendous care.
