The brooch measures approximately 43 mms in diameter and is set in silvered metal with an old fashioned hinged pin to the reverse. The metal reverse of the brooch also has a tiny cross mark which symbolises that the brooch is a true piece of Satsuma pottery. The brooch is made out of fine creamy coloured porcelain that has the minute characteristic crazing of Satsuma Pottery. Chrysanthemums in Japanese culture symbolise good fortune, long life and rebirth. The pair of Japanese quails symbolises a happy long lasting relationship.
