Fabulous 8 Meiji Antique Japanese Kutani Jardiniere Pot Planter Fine Quality

The jardiniere has six sides that are highly decorated in colors of green, red, brown, pink, blue and gold on a background of white porcelain. Three sides are decorated with inserts of flowers and a bird or butterfly alternating with three panels decorated with a Japanese motif. The panels with Japanese motifs are painted in red & green with accents of gilt. All six panels have a textured design that is recessed in the porcelain. There are chains of pretty pink, green & brown flowers around the top and bottom. These flowers are repeated on the top of the jardiniere. The jardiniere sits gracefully on three decorated feet in red, green and gilt. There is a drainage hole in the bottom of the jard. The vase is unmarked as is common with many older porcelains. The period is probably Meiji (1868 - 1912).

I believe the jardinere is Kutani but it could be Satsuma. The jard is in excellent antique condition with expected wear. There are no cracks, chips, damage or repairs. There could be a few natural characteristics of old porcelain and surface scratches.

There is a lot of gilt or gold on the jard and it is in excellent condition. The bottom is unfinished and has dark areas. The inside of the pot has white porcelain finished at the top. Farther down, the inside is unfinished and has some old stains.

I believe this area could be cleaned to whiten it up a little. There is some darkening around the bottom of the jard and under the rim. I have not tried to remove this. Weight: 6 pounds 10 ounces.

Diameter at top: 8 7/8. This beautiful antique Japanese Kutani porcelain jardiniere is a rare find. It would be a great addition to your collection of Asian art & antiques! A fine antique to display in your home - with or without a plant.
