EXQUISITE Antique Japanese Fine. 950 Sterling Silver Damascene Floral Bracelet
EXQUISITE antique/vintage Japanese designer signed fine. Gold & pure silver damascene floral design bracelet. This bracelet is 11/16" wide by 7 3/4" long and weighs 20.2 grams. It features nine 5/8 ornate panels, each of which is entirely hand-crafted with a unique floral design that is created with the use of fine silver and steel with solid 24 Kt. Gold and pure silver threads that are hammered into the engraved designs and cured.
This is an extremely lengthy process that originated in Damascus and that was brought to Japan over 2,000 years ago. This bracelet is an unusual, wonderful example of Damascene work. Much of this type of work is done in steel, as opposed to fine silver, so this bracelet is a particularly valuable creation. Each panel has a unique design and each design is perfect and crisp with brilliant silver and rosy colored gold flowers, leaves, stems, etc. Japanese craftsmen became quite skilled at damascene and used it to adorn sword handles, helmets and then cigarette cases, buttons, boxes, brooches, etc. It is a remarkably lengthy process to achieve these designs, involving highly skilled hand-cutting into which gold and silver silken threads are hammered. Weeks and months to create damascene jewelry. I rarely see damascene in precious metal. I was delighted to acquire this bracelet.I have also listed the matching necklace, which features one floral design. It is also created in fine silver. Both the necklace and this bracelet are in very good condition with no damage other than very minor, age appropriate surface wear. There is no damage to the damascene.
This bracelet was difficult to photograph. The pure gold and silver inlay is bright and reflective, so I had issues with the light against the matte black background. This bracelet is signed "Japan, 950 Silver", 24 Kt. " and has a designer's mark, "KZ inside of a box. It has been professionally tested as.
