Up for sale is an outstanding antique Japanese silk painting depicting a geisha in a pink kimono. This delicately painted portrait is well executed and seen signed low right. Her sweet and soft facial expression is charmingly paired with a floral decoration of her dress and a matching white bow tying up her black hair.
I particularly enjoy the geometric patterns on the contrasting black slash bearing its golden triangles as well as more patterns seen at the end of the sleeves and neck. The size of this is quite nice with the painting measuring 41.5 x 15.5 inches while its attractive black bamboo style wood frame measures 43 x 17 inches making this work ready to be hung and enjoyed. The painting is in very fine condition retaining excellent color and condition of the silk overall while the frame may show some minimal cosmetic imperfections. There is some provenance written verso as seen in the last photo provided. The pencil inscription is quite light but reads This picture was received by Dr. Conley from Ushijima in 1954. It was 150 years old at that time, it is painted on silk and 150+- years old.
