Part of a private collection. A large finely hand decorated Japanese white porcelain gilt Kutani shallow bowl.
We dont know a lot about it apart from its been in private collection for many years, recently out of storage from France. Dating we believe to the late Meiji period but could well be earlier. The bowl has a gold gilt decorated interior rim in a flower formation with small green painted sections within and evenly spaced white enamel dots, the outer rim a gold gilt Oriental Chinese pattern symbol decoration. Within the bowl a hand painted rural scene depicting a large male bird beside a smaller female bird within tall grass against a gilt background, above a flock of birds, a tree to the right dominating the scene. The outer body of the bowl shows a section of hand painted chrysanthemums leading around to another flock of birds. The base has a red character mark within a square, we are unfamiliar with this makers mark but we believe Kutani ware, so could be a unknown maker. A well presented and in good order Japanese piece of porcelain art.
Size just over 10.5" wide and just under 3.5" tall aprox.
