A SUPERB 19th century MeijI Period Japanese lacquer box. The top covered in a ground of rich Ox blood lacquer very finely painted with a Mandarin duck in gold Maki-e and silver, sitting on a riverbank with bamboo fronds in the background.
On the front and back side masterfully painted with 5 ducklings eachsome in Gold and others in Silver, the left side 3 ducklings and on the right side another 3.
